Tin Can Podcast, May-June 2012

Two more excellent entries in Tin Can Podcast's excellent canon of mini-dramas, all downloadable from the website (www.tincanpodcast.co.uk). Both of them offered comic reinterpretations of familiar historical events.

A First Time for Everything took us back to Munch 1923, when Adolf Hitler (Mike Shephard) first encouraged his followers to use the salutation "Heil Hitler," rather than the more prosaic phrases used in the past. His demands seemed reasonable - so much so that Anton Drexler (Dave Florez) was almost persuaded that Hitler was actually a pleasant person. It is one of the ironies of history that this judgment proved erroneous.

Dark Horse put a comic spin on one of the more unlikely military campaigns of ancient history - the assault on Troy by the wooden horse. Author Mark Brown imagined what life would be like inside that confined space for the troops; and the picture was not pleasant. Full of scatological jokes, with the characters using a variety of accents ranging from cod-Chicago to Standard English, the playlet gave some idea of just how unpleasant life for a serving soldier can be, both then and now.
