Download The Barbie Murders from audiotheque.co.uk
Another mini-drama from the site providing a valuable outlet for
new writing. This piece, told as a first-person narrative by a detective, envisaged a murder situation where Barbie had been
decapitated - possibly by a young child, but possibly by Ken. Maybe she had been unfaithful to him, despite what her manufacturers
envisaged? Maybe she had developed a mind of her own? Maybe she had rebelled against those generations of little girls who
idealized her as a symbol of perfect girlhood? None of these questions were actually
answered, but the drama did well to raise them in its short running-time.
It's nice to see so much radio drama being made available through a variety of outlets,
providing opportunities for writers young and old to experiment with their work. I sincerely hope this trend continues.
