Studio 360, 14 November 2011

First published in 1991, Terry Bisson's short story is a parable involving two beings (Miriam Tolan, Russ Armstrong) travelling across the universe, to get in contact with any "sentient beings," that they might find.  They discover carbon-based life, which might or might not represent the human race, which they characterize as "thinking meat."  Shocked by what they have witnessed, they agree to erase the records and forget the whole experience.

A parable with a sting in the tail, They're Made Out of Meat offers a cynical view of the human race; despite what we might think, we're neither intelligent nor superior.  To some aliens, we're just gross; the kind of cannon-fodder given to animals.  The director of this tale was Jonathan Mitchell of The Truth APM.
