Download Pride and Prejudice: Five Minute Classics from Misfits Audio

Misfits Audio, 2013

Following the production of Pride and Prejudice in Less than a Minute from last year, Misfits Audio's spoof of the Austen classic seems somewhat lengthy by comparison.

It's a nice idea to take the framework of the Austen classic and turn it into a comedy spoof, but actually it tells us more about the producers' views rather than the book itself.  This version makes fun of the conventions governing many of the characters in the novel, while allowing for the fact that the Bennet sisters find different partners of varying degrees of suitability.  There's a nice line in it, describing Darcy's method of speaking as resembling someone with a lemon in his mouth, but very little is actually made of the developing Elizabeth/ Darcy relationship.  Instead the adaptors make reference to the fact that, were Pride and Prejudice to be updated, its sentiments would be very different from those expressed by Austen, and would probably involve shopping in some way, shape or form.

The cast is full of Misfits regulars, including Joe Stofko as a valetudinarian Mr. Bennet.  Worth a listen, if only for its brevity.
