Adapted from a Russian folktale and directed by Colin McRoberts, The Baba Yaga Saga was a macabre little tale with strong echoes of Cinderella, as Vassilissa (Michelle Lenne) is forced out to find light so that she and her sisters can complete a task imposed on them by their mother (Karen Kahler).

During her travels she meets a wicked step-mother with a penchant for eating people (Kimberly Poole), which represents not much of an alternative for the unfortunate girl, who has spent much of her life being bossed about by her step-sisters (Gwendolyn Jensen-Woodard, Robin McRoberts).  Eventually the girl escapes a fate worse  than death, and might even contract a happy marriage - provided, that is, that she perform certain tasks for her future husband.

Narrated with tongue-in-cheek innocence by Uncle Ivan (Tim Rowe), The Baba Yaga Saga was at once amusing yet quite scary, as it underlined the risks attending any young lady seeking to make her fortune in the world.
