Radio Project X
comprises a monthly series of audio plays and sketches performed live in Toronto, Canada, and subsequently distributed worldwide
through podcasts. They provide a much-needed service to fill the gap left in Canadian radio drama by the decision of
the national broadcaster CBC not to make any more original productions.
Their output has been comparatively sparse in 2013 (although another broadcast is promised
for 27 August). However there are plenty of performances to listen to online. The August 2012 production featured
a dramatization of "The Other Celia," based on a Theodore Sturgeon story; a month earlier, "Beyond Lies the Web," was
broadcast, based on a piece by Philip K. Dick. For old-time radio aficionados, there is a dramatization (or is it recreation?)
of Arch W. Oboler's "The Dark."
Some of the comic
sketches are a little weak, it has to be admitted; but the company as a whole are likeable and talented. They obviously
enjoy what they are doing - providing good aural entertainment for live audiences and listeners alike.
