It's 2016, and the free world has been turned upside down by an ongoing
conflict between the United States and China. Britain has been transformed into an insignificant territory - although continuing
to side with the Americans, they have little or no means to defend themselves. The country is unexpectedly attacked on more
than one occasion: in the first attack, the people are left without power and communication. As a result, looting and social
disorder spreads through the country's major towns and cities.
The second attack on Edinburgh proves even more deadly: most of the citizens are
killed, and those that remain are transformed into killer zombies by a deadly gas. Andy (Robert Cudmore) and American
student Lucy (Kiki Barrett) encounter other survivors, including Gaz (Colin Somerville), Joe (Michael Hudson) and Harry
(Neil Colquhoun). The two groups view each other suspiciously at first, but agree later on to join forces
in an attempt to deal with the barbaric realities of this post-apocalyptic world.
By delivering their lines at a cracking pace, the five-strong cast
show how desperate the situation actually is; they have to quit the city as soon as possible. The music - a combination of
ominous-sounding violins and cellos - reinforces the atmosphere. I look forward eagerly to future episodes of this compelling
piece.
